Chen Huixian was born in Chen Village (Chenjiagou), Henan Province, China – the historical birthplace of Taijiquan. She began her Taiji training at the early age of six with her father, Grandmaster Chen Chunlei, studying traditional Chen-family Taijiquan forms that have been handed down for generations. At the age of seventeen, she began studying Taiji with her uncle, Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, and quickly became his official Disciple.
As a Disciple of Chen Zhenglei, Chen Huixian began a deeper study of the art of Tai-Chi, including martial art theories, combat techniques. Under the guidance of her uncle and his senior disciples, she gradually formed her own understanding of Tai-Chi development in the world.
Chen Huixian has won gold medals in numerous Collegic, National, and International tournaments throughout China, in both Taiji Form and Taiji Weapons, as well as winning several Advanced Division Push Hands Championships. She now lives and teaches Taijiquan in Kansas City and travels throughout the U.S. to teach Chen Taijiquan workshops and seminars.

Chen Taiji Ba Fa: Silk Reeling & Fajin Training Drills for Developing Internal Power - Sun, Jun 27: 7:00am - 8:20am This class will cover the 8 basic movements/energies of Chen Taijiquan, the Taiji Ba Fa (peng, lu, ji, an, cai, lie, zhou, and kao). These are the foundations of Chen Taiji and bridge the gap from Taiji form to combat and self-defense applications. These movements/energies can be found throughout all styles of Taiji, and are essential points of study for any serious Taiji practitioner.
Chen Huixian will also be teaching ‘Si Zheng Shou’ and ‘Si Yu Shou’, the Chen Taiji methods of training these 8 Taiji Ba Fa Energies. These are individual repetitive Silk Reeling and Fajin drills that help to develop Whole Body Movement (Zhou Shen Yun Dong) and also strengthen your Internal Power (Nei Jin). This development of unified body movement, kinetic linkage and strong Internal Energy build the foundations for the relaxed and explosive power that is the trademark of Chen Taijiquan.
Chen Taijiquan Push-Hands: Ding Bu & An Introduction to Qinna Applications - Sun, Jun 27: 8:30am - 9:50am Chen Huixian will cover the Chen Taiji Push-Hands method of ‘Ding Bu’ and introduce some of the Qinna found within its movements. Often considered the one of the most recognizable methods of the Chen Family Push-Hands training, Ding Bu is also one of more complex methods to learn. In this stage of Push-Hands partners shift weight back and forth without stepping, using vertical and horizontal circular movements of both arms that open and close as your hands alternate contact between both wrists and elbows of your partner. Even the casual observer can recognize the obvious Qinna Applications and Reversals inherent in this two-person set. Workshop participants will work with a partner to learn the Ding Bu method as well as practicing a few of the many Qinna techniques that can be developed from this routine.

Chen Taiji Chin Na (Qinna)- Fri, Jun 25: 7:00pm - 8:20pm
All disciplines of Martial Arts begin with self defense as the basis. Without self defense technique the form is an empty show only. Self defense techniques must always be taught with every form of martial arts. One can never become a Master of Tai Chi or any Martial Art without learning the self defense techniques! All schools of Martial Arts teach a form of Qinna. It historically has, and even today, is almost always treated as a guarded secret, including in Chen Style Tai Chi. 16th generation Grandmaster (Chen Xin)… said he would rather burn all the information about Qinna than teach it to any unworthy student. Consider the information we are being taught as special and something to treasure. We will learn many techniques and “secrets”, do not worry, but first must start with the basics and learn them well, for there is no progressing further without them. Qinna techniques are considered so damaging that many schools who do teach it only teach a watered down version. Only a small percentage of all of the actual techniques are known and taught widely. As mentioned before, the Qinna techniques have been kept as a guarded secret throughout history, passed down to particular students chosen by their Masters. Few Masters have been taught the true art to its deepest levels.

You’ll learn what editors are looking for in a cover story or any article submission. You’ll also learn how to read between the lines to get at what authors are really saying, as well as how to write between the lines to say what you really want to say. Gene will be autographing his new book Shaolin Trips throughout the weekend, however he won't be bringing copies with him. You must purchase the book beforehand. Chen Style
Taiji Single Sword: Workshop II - Sun, Jun 27: 8:30am - 9:50am
Chen Style Taiji Jian (sword) is one of the major weapon routines that consists of 49 movements known as 49 forms. These forms are actions of defense and attack mainly including deflect, neutralize, trust, slice, block, chop, intercept and point. This sword play is full of changes combining hard and soft moments. When one practices Chen Taiji Jian, one should be continuous and smooth like clouds or flowing like water, turning in circles and applying the movement force like a dragon. Following the characteristics of Chen Taiji, the swordplay is the perfect expression of the 2 complimentary yin-yang energies. The learning and practice of the 49 Taiji Jian forms is accessible to both beginner and more advanced practitioners. For all those dedicated to the traditional martial arts practice, Chen Taiji Jian is a routine that enriches and completes their technical knowledge and overall experience, as it consolidates and perfects the overall movement foundation.
